U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump has filed a $10 billion lawsuit against the American television network CBS News.
On Thursday, October 31, local time, Republican presidential candidate Trump filed the lawsuit in the federal court of Texas’ Northern District.
The lawsuit revolves around an interview with Democratic candidate Kamala Harris broadcast on the network’s “60 Minutes” program. The lawsuit claims the interview was misleading, alleging that CBS broadcast two different answers to a question about the Israel-Hamas war.
However, the channel has denied the allegation. In a statement, CBS said that Harris had given an interview for their “Face the Nation” program, which aired on October 7. A brief segment of her response to a question on the Israel-Hamas conflict was included in the “60 Minutes” program. CBS added that other topics also needed to be covered in “60 Minutes,” so the interview was shortened accordingly. A CBS News spokesperson stated that Trump’s claims are not true.
In the lawsuit, Trump has demanded $10 billion in damages.
Trump has regularly criticized CBS for airing Harris’s interview, even threatening to revoke CBS’s license if elected.
CBS also mentioned that Trump had initially agreed to give an interview for “60 Minutes” but later withdrew from that decision.
As the U.S. presidential election approaches, public opinion polls show a close race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
