When directly asked about Netanyahu’s potential arrest, the spokesperson declined to comment on specific cases but reaffirmed the UK’s dedication to upholding the rule of law.
The ICC, based in The Hague, Netherlands, issued the warrant on Thursday, accusing Netanyahu of war crimes and crimes against humanity during the Gaza conflict. Labor MP Emily Thornberry stated that the UK is obligated to act on the ICC warrant should Netanyahu enter British territory, stressing that membership in the ICC requires compliance.
Several other nations, including the Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Finland, Portugal, Slovenia, Austria, Spain, Italy, Sweden, Belgium, Norway, and Canada, have pledged to honor the ICC warrant. However, France has described the warrant as valid but noted that arresting Netanyahu could pose “legal complexities.”
