Plane Crash at South Korea’s Muan Airport Claims at Least 28 Lives
A tragic aircraft accident at Muan International Airport in South Korea has resulted in the deaths of at least 28 people, according to Yonhap news agency. The plane, carrying 181 individuals, veered off the runway during landing and crashed into a wall.
The Jeju Air flight, returning from Bangkok, Thailand, had 175 passengers and six crew members on board. While rescue efforts are ongoing, officials report that two survivors have been found.
Emergency responders are working to reach people trapped in the aircraft’s tail section, an airport representative stated. A fire official told Reuters that rescue operations are still underway.
Preliminary reports suggest that a bird strike might have caused the plane’s landing gear to malfunction, but the exact cause remains under investigation.
Dramatic, unverified footage circulating on social media shows the plane skidding off the runway before crashing into a wall and erupting into flames. Other videos reveal a thick column of black smoke rising from the crash site.
Authorities continue to assess the situation as rescue teams work tirelessly to recover survivors and investigate the incident.
