Former President Donald Trump has nominated renowned Wall Street investor Scott Bessent as the next Secretary of the Treasury in his new administration. The announcement, made on Friday night (November 22), positions the 62-year-old to oversee critical areas such as U.S. tax policy, national debt, international economics, and sanctions.
In a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump described Bessent as “one of the world’s most respected international investors and geopolitical strategists.” Trump praised Bessent’s longstanding support of the “America First” agenda, stating that he would “enhance America’s competitive edge and address unfair trade imbalances.”
Bessent has been a vocal supporter of Trump since the start of his 2024 presidential campaign. During the campaign, he lauded Trump’s policies, telling voters that Trump’s leadership would usher in a “new golden era” marked by deregulation, affordable energy, and lower taxes.
Notably, Bessent previously worked for billionaire investor George Soros and has established a reputation as a global financial strategist.
In addition to Bessent’s nomination, Trump announced Lori Chavez-DeRemer, a 56-year-old Republican congresswoman from Oregon, as the new Secretary of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer has gained notable support from trade unions, enhancing her credibility for the role.
These appointments mark a near-completion of Trump’s Cabinet for his anticipated second term.
