On November 5, Republican candidate Donald Trump secured a landslide victory in the U.S. presidential election. Set to assume office on January 20, Trump has already begun forming his cabinet, naming Scott Bassett as his pick for Treasury Secretary.
Bassett will oversee key aspects of U.S. fiscal policy, including tax regulations, government debt management, international financing, and sanctions. Trump announced the nomination on Friday, sharing the news via his social media platform, Social Truth.

In his post, Trump described Bassett as “one of the world’s most renowned international investors and a respected strategist in geopolitical and economic matters.” He added, “Scott has been a long-standing advocate of the ‘America First Agenda.’ By supporting my policies, he will enhance America’s competitive spirit and work to eliminate unfair trade imbalances.”
Scott Bassett is a prominent figure on Wall Street and a distinguished investor. He previously worked for Hungarian-American billionaire and philanthropist George Soros. Since the start of the 2024 presidential campaign, Bassett has been a vocal supporter of Trump.
During the campaign, Bassett praised Trump, telling voters that the former president would usher in a “new golden era,” characterized by deregulation, affordable energy, and lower taxes.
